Morris Chair &Ottomanby
Richard Bissell Fine WoodworkingQuartersawn white oak with leather upholstery
This Morris chair and ottoman set was built to the exacting specifications of the customer. He was particularly concerned that the quartersawn grain be visible on all 4 sides of the chair legs. He required that the legs be made from 4 pieces of 2" thick quartersawn white oak that were mitered together to form each leg. Pinned through mortise and tenon joinery was used whenever possible. The leather upholstery was done by a local custom upholstery shop. The chair seat was built using traditional springs rather than just being a cushion.
